Flagship sector of the Drâa-Tafilalet region, mainly in the Dades Valley, the perfume rose is of major economic, social and environmental importance. It is appreciated all over the world for the quality of its water and its essential oil, as well as its many derived products. Today there are two Protected Designations of Origin (AOP): Rose de Kelâa M’gouna-Dadès and Eau de rose de Kelâa M’gouna-Dadès.

Achievements and impacts
Perfume rose cultivation increased its area by 14% between 2007 and 2019, while production increased 1.4 times over the same period: it currently reaches 3,900 tonnes. Its exports were also boosted. In 2019, they represented more than 9.2 million DH, against less than 3.5 million ten years before. Finally, the price paid to producers has steadily increased: it has averaged 20,000 DH per tonne since 2015, compared to 8,000 DH between 2003 and 2007.
